What would "pop up" on my feed?!!?!?

When choosing these advertisements I thought very closely about the needs of everyday living TODAY. Not the needs of those characters living in Feed.

Number 1: You need to eat!

"Bada ba ba ba! I'm lovin' it."

McDonalds spent around $1.2 billion dollars in advertising in 2008. McDonalds to me would DEFINITELY be an ad that would pop up on our feeds if we had them today. Just think.. How many commercials and billboards do we see for McDonalds each day, now times that times 3 considering your taking tv, radio and billboards and throwing them into one feed system. BAM MCDONALDS.

Number 2: You have to sleep!

Awe these little sheep will keep you soft and cozy all through the night! If there is one thing I hate seeing when I'm tired, it is Serta matress commercials but guess what!? That's why they play them! Because when I went shopping for my matress, I TOTALLY bought a Serta.
FYI: The term count the sheep came from hired barn help that would sleep in the barns and the sheep were the only thing to look at when they couldn't sleep =)

Number 3: You have to take a shower!

I picked Herbal Essences because.. well, that's what I use. But! Another necessity of life, if you are a normal showering person, would be body wash. Herbal Essences grossed about $80 billion in 2009. If that doesn't say good product, I'm not sure what does. Why wouldn't you want someone laughing while taking a shower to pop up on your feed?!

Number 4: Put some clothes on!

In 2009, Nike made an estimated $19 billion. That doesn't seem high enough to me, but when does wikipedia ever lie ;) As far as clothing goes, Nike has EVERYTHING. Hats, shoes, shirts, jackets, pants, shorts, sports bras, underware, socks.. I can keep going. But on a feed for today Nike would DEFINITELY be on there as a "great sports wear choice."

  1. I definitely agree with a lot of your advertisements!! McDonald's is definitely a huge marketer of advertisements and they definitely rack in the money. Clothing is also a good advertisement to show. I feel as though people don't care what the clothing is made out of, they just care who it is made by. Wal-Mart clothes may be made out of better material but people will still choose foreign-made American Eagle clothes that normally fall apart after a year. Are people really this careless?? And I don't know if you saw any news about Nike but a few years ago they did a documentary on Nike factories overseas...one word...SAD. Those people barely get enough money to buy a bottle of water with....it is absolutely rediculous!! If you get a chance, look it up or something. As for matresses, I would rather go with one of those Therapeutic space foam things haha :)

  2. I picked the same topic/response and surprisingly, none of our products (or categories for that matter) were the same! I couldn't agree more with yours though, based on our needs and the society we live in today. This just makes me think though, how many advertisements could possibly be running through our Feed!? I guess it just gives me a better understanding of how chaotic the Feed could be. There would literally be millions of advertisements floating around, popping up in your head left and right. I honestly don't know, now that I'm thinking about it, if having the Feed would even be worth it. I bet that your entire life would feel like you were watching a t.v. show. Commercials/advertisements would always be budding in! I know how annoyed I get my commercials as it is when I'm watching t.v. I can only imagine how frustrating it would be if they popped up even when I wasn't (technically) watching!

  3. After reading your blog entry, it made me think how much more we could accomplish or the people we could help if all those billions of dollars wasn't spent on advertising. Honestly, we could be making a small dent into the National Debt we have which is over 14 trillion dollars by the way. It amazes me how much some of the corporations still advertise so much especially when people are already so drawn to there product. They have established there name, maintain it with good product, not good advertising.

  4. I noticed that almost all of us did the same prompt for this blog and we all approached it in different ways. I really liked how you incorporated facts and the amount of money about the corporations that are advertising to us. The amount of money spent is unreal and Chris brings up a great point. If less of our money went to advertising and more went to where we really need it maybe we wouldn't be in such a situation now.
